Heroic Middletown officer awarded Police Purple Heart

A Middletown police officer who was shot in the line of duty last summer was awarded a Police Purple Heart Tuesday.Christopher Dolan had only been on the job a few months when he and his fellow Middletown officers responded to a domestic call last July. Police said the man inside the Wawayanda Avenue house, Raymond Zayas, shot a 9 mm handgun through door and hit Dolan three times. ?I'm just really happy to be here and be back on the force,? said Dolan. Chief Matthew Byrne also gave medals to the officers who were with Dolan last summer in honor of their bravery and the way they took care of their fellow officer. This is the first time in the department's 120-year history the medals were given out.
