A worker on the Tappan Zee Bridge was injured after he became pinned between a tractor-trailer and its cab.
Charles Johnson, the head engineer of the re-decking project, says 52-year-old truck driver John Oszart was hooking up the trailer to its cab when the cab moved back and pinned him Wednesday evening. Oszart suffered internal injuries, but is expected to recover.
A number of crews are now on the bridge from 8 p.m. until 6 a.m. removing sections of the bridge?s surface and replacing them. Since the re-decking project got under way, many safety precautions were taken. Motorists are being alerted with lane reductions, signs, orange cones and a 35 mph speed limit.
Tappan Zee Bridge construction crews are hoping to make it through the rest of the re-decking project accident free, however, they have only just begun. The project is expected to take the rest of the year.
