Alleged teen booze party hostess gets tough lovePosted: Updated:
A 16-year-old Pearl River teen faces serious charges for allegedly hosting an underage booze bash at her home.
Orangetown police say they found 15 to 20 minors drinking beer at the Pearl River home after receiving noise complaints from neighbors. No adults were present. They arrested the girl who lives there and charged her with misdemeanor "unlawfully dealing with a child."
She was released to the custody of her parents and is due in court next month.
"We know the underage drinking leads to a lot of problems, whether it be fights, driving while intoxicated and all of the problems that come from that situation," says Orangetown Police Department Sgt. Sean Russo. "We encourage a zero-tolerance policy as a department."
While neighbor Lise Chanin believes parents are allowed a night off, she says the law must be laid down. "You can't be there 24/7," says Chanin. "I think what you have to do is start earlier [so] they know that's what the rules are and that you have to follow the rules of the house."
The girl's parents have not been charged with any crime.
