2 Orange County bands prep for pope performance
Two Orange County bands are preparing for inspirational and uplifting performances before Pope Benedict XVI.
A Fragile Tomorrow and Full Armor were selected from a pool of more than 100 bands to play at the April 19 youth rally at St. Joseph's Seminary in Yonkers, where the pope will address young people.
For two of the three Kelly brothers of A Fragile Tomorrow, it's an opportunity they once would never have dreamed of because they have cerebral palsy. The Kellys and their friend, who is also in the band, are just thankful for the chance."The first thing I thought was, never, no way," says Sean Kelly. "We're never gonna get it. They're not gonna pick us."
Full Armor was also selected to play before the expected crowd of 25,000 ? a major jump from the crowds of 300 the band is used to playing for. Band members hope the event will give them the chance to share their feelings with others.
"This is also conveying our beliefs and trying to help others and inspire them," says Tara Lakeman, of Full Armor.
News 12 Hudson Valley will have live coverage of the youth rally throughout the event.
