Technology, economy top State of the County address
Orange County Executive Edward Diana delivered the State of the County address Thursday with a focus on technology and the economy.Diana said that efforts to keep county residents safe will be implemented with technological measures such as the new Emergency Services Center, also known as E 911. The E 911 center will be completed this spring and will provide Orange County residents with the most E 911 Emergency Centers in the state.
The county has also implemented its new e-mail audio communication system, which will improve communications between the district attorney?s office and the 911 centers.
In order to prevent any fiscal problems, the county was forced to cut departmental budget requests by $9.8 million for the 2008 budget. The county is set to lose $3 million from the state?s budget.Diana is optimistic that the additions to Stewart International Airport will help the local economy. The upcoming completion of the Drury Lane Project will make way for the arrival of Jet Blue, Air Tran and Skybus.
