Commute from NYC slowed by Metro-North interruption
For commuters who work in Manhattan, getting home Tuesday night proved to be quite a hassle after Metro-North service was suspended for more than an hour.
For nearly two hours there were no trains running in or out of Grand Central Station due to a partial building collapse in Harlem around 3 p.m. No one was injured, but all trains passing 125th Street were ordered to stop for fear vibrations could cause another building to collapse.
Some said it was the worst commuting experience they ever had. ?It was miserable,? Allison Durham said after she got off a packed train in Yonkers. ?It was sweaty, it was stuffy. You could barely breathe."
Thousands were stranded at Grand Central even after train service resumed due to residual delays. Regular service is expected to be restored Wednesday morning.
