Grand jury may see evidence in alleged cop rape case
As the New Rochelle PBA came to the defense of a police sergeant accused of rape, News 12 has learned forensic evidence in the case could be presented to a grand jury soon.
The PBA is standing behind police Sgt. David Rodriguez amid allegations that he raped a 17-year-old illegal immigrant in her home when he was off-duty Feb. 9. No formal charges have been filed against Rodriguez, however, he is suspended with pay during the investigation.
Investigators say the rape allegations started a little over a week ago when the alleged victim called police saying her boyfriend was beating her. Rodriguez responded to the call with three other officers and arrested the man. Police say when the teen went to the Westchester County District Attorney?s Office to get the charges against her boyfriend dropped, she told authorities Rodriguez came back to her house when his shift ended and raped her.
Rodriguez, who has been with the department for almost 10 years, is married to WNBC-TV news anchor Darlene Rodriguez.
