Man allegedly beaten by cops struggles to recover
As four NYPD officers await a court date stemming from the severe beating of a man outside a Yonkers bar, the victim is trying to recover.
"He is struggling to get back on his feet again. It's hard for him to work with one eye," said Peter Cummings' friend, who wished to remain unidentified. "No matter what, the guy doesn't deserve what happened to him." The friend also mentioned Cummings' mounting medical bills.
Officers Thomas Wimmer and Michael McGhee and civilian Patrick Tully allegedly assaulted Cummings Sept. 14 at Rockin' Robin's bar after Tully allegedly made a comment to Cummings' girlfriend.
Responding NYPD Officers Jeffrey Alicea and Stella Ibanez are charged with official misconduct for allegedly covering up the incident to protect the off-duty officers.
The officers pleaded not guilty Friday to misdemeanor charges of assault or official misconduct. The officers and civilian were freed without bail pending April court dates. They face a year in jail if found guilty.
Meanwhile, one of Tully's neighbors described the suspect as a "good neighbor."
