Port Jervis woman accused of bigamy
A Port Jervis woman is accused of being married to four men at the same time.
Police say 60-year-old Dorothy Wunders lied to her spouses and officials about her marriages dating back to 1972. Her most recent marriage occurred on Jan. 6, 2008 to Kevin Lamb. Lamb says he didn?t know anything about Wunders? previous marriages.
Port Jervis Police Det. Mike Worden says he received the case after the city clerk noticed something on Wunders? paperwork. Worden says Wunders had two other valid marriages on file in the city and another one in Middletown. Worden adds that Wunders was also arrested in Middletown for bigamy in 1987.
According to authorities, Wunders? first wedding was Feb. 19, 1972. She claims that ended when her husband died. Police say her second marriage took place on Sept. 17, 1986, which Wunders claims ended in divorce. The third wedding, on July 24, 1987, apparently ended when her husband went to state prison. Police say Wunders is a bigamist because none of the marriages were ever officially dissolved.
Wunders is facing felony charges for bigamy, falsifying business records, forgery and perjury. Meanwhile, her latest husband says he is already looking into an annulment.
