Rockland ceremonies honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Two Rockland organizations held ceremonies Wednesday to celebrate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.?s legacy of equality and compassion.

ARC of Rockland, a nonprofit dedicated to helping people with developmental disabilities, honored four staff members and two clients with awards named after the famed civil rights leader in a ceremony at its training center in Congers.

"I felt honored essentially because Dr. King embodies the very qualities that we try to promote here at ARC, which has a lot to do with standing up for a cause whether it be for someone who has developmental disabilities or for something that you feel just needs a level of attention and recognition," said Abiba Kindo, one of the award?s recipients.

Camp Venture, which also deals with developmentally disabled clients, held its own ceremony to honor Dr. King in Sparkill.
