Prostitution sting nets more than 50 suspectsPosted: Updated:
A prostitution sting by Greenburgh police landed 10 alleged prostitutes and more than 50 others in jail Saturday.
The bust was the culmination of a nine-month investigation by police from Greenburgh, Rye, Ryebrook and Elmsford with the support of the Westchester District Attorney's Office. The probe began last March after Greenburgh police received an anonymous tip alleging the Web site Craigslist was being used to advertise prostitution in the area.
Police say the men charged with prostitution-related charges run the full gamut of professions. The clientele list includes real estate developers, civil servants and medical personnel, according to authorities. The alleged clients are facing misdemeanor charges of patronizing a prostitute.
A New York City police officer and three others are facing charges for promoting prostitution. No details regarding consequences and possible punishments have been released.
