NYPD officer charged with raping karate student
An NYPD officer from Middletown is accused of raping a 15-year-old girl who was his student at a New Jersey karate school.
According to police, 39-year-old Trent Young, the owner and instructor of a New Jersey martial arts studio, was arrested Thursday and charged with rape in the second and third degree. Police say Young sexually abused and then began having sex with the 15-year-old girl, a student at Iron Tiger Martial Arts in West Milford, N.J., in 2005.
Young is accused of using intimidation to rape his teen karate student on several occasions. According to police, Young used an oath of obedience to sexually abuse the girl. ?He said as part of this oath, as part of this initiation, I'm gonna need you to disrobe for me. Which she did and at that point, he sexually abused her,? says Lt. Patrick Freeman.
Young then began a sexual relationship with the girl, leading her to believe it was part of the karate school's program, police say. Young is accused of having sex with her 20 to 40 times at various locations, including his home and at the school.
Young was free on bail Friday. The NYPD says Young has been suspended without pay. AP wire reports contributed to this story
