Wicked weather blamed for Cornwall oil tanker wreck

Posted: Updated:

Wicked weather is being blamed for an accident that caused home heating oil to leak onto a Cornwall man's property Thursday.

Officials say a Heritagenergy driver was on his way to deliver home heating oil when he lost control of his tanker. The vehicle's cab ended up wrapped around a tree while up to 1,000 gallons of oil spilled out of the tank. The driver was hospitalized with serious injuries.

The accident occurred in front of Brian Morgan's property. "The odor of the oil could almost make you sick," Morgan said. "It's not the kind of thing you want to come home to."

Department of Environmental Conservation crews and other responders worked to soak up as much oil as possible, but they admitted concerns remain since many area homes rely on wells for water.
