Police are investigating a two-car accident that left two people dead in Chestnut Ridge.

Police say a black SUV slammed into another SUV on Chestnut Ridge Road near Scotland Road around 2 p.m. Tuesday. The black vehicle rolled over several times before coming to a stop.

One of the five passengers in the black SUV was ejected and became trapped underneath the vehicle. Another was stuck behind the driver's wheel, according to police. Good Samaritan Hospital confirms that one of the victims was dead on arrival and another died later. The others were seriously injured.

The driver of the other SUV was the only person in that vehicle. The driver crashed through some bushes before coming to a stop. The vehicle sustained little damage.

Ramapo police kept Chestnut Ridge Road closed for hours as they worked to piece together the events in the deadly accident.
