Cop recovers after getting ejected from vehicle
A three-year veteran of the Clarkstown police force is recovering from surgery after he was thrown from his car Sunday night.
Officer John Mahoney was responding to reports of a stabbing at a Congers Dunkin' Donuts when he lost control of his car. Mahoney and the automobile's motor were ejected from the vehicle after it veered across the wet street and hit a group of trees.
The officer did not suffer any life-threatening injuries and was taken to Westchester Medical. He did break several bones and underwent surgery Monday for his injuries.
"He has a long recovery but you know he will end up OK," said Police Chief Peter Noonan. "That's really the key thing."
Authorities are currently investigating what caused the accident.
