Tear-filled funeral for boy who suffocated at home

More than 100 people joined a grieving grandmother as her 8-year-old grandson was laid to rest in Mount Vernon Saturday after a tragic accident.
Deveion Ferguson lived with his grandparents in their Ossining home. He died Tuesday when he somehow zipped himself inside a mattress cover and suffocated. Ossining police say the death was accidental.
The pastor asked those who gathered at his funeral, how one little boy could bring so many people together. People from Brookside Elementary School in Ossining to fellow congregants in Mount Vernon and even those from Nepperhan Community Center in Yonkers, where Deveion was a summer camper this year, turned out to pay their respects.
Notes from fellow students posted at the funeral showed how deep of an impact the third-grader had on his peers. As the mourners try to understand how Deveion?s life could end so early, they say they are grateful for the gifts he brought them while he was here.
