Rockland, Orange report two cases of MRSA
Orange and Rockland counties are reporting two confirmed cases of the drug-resistant staph infection known as MRSA.
An 18-year-old male student from Goshen who attends the BOCES Jesse Kaplan School in West Nyack was diagnosed Tuesday and sent home. Parents were immediately notified and classes resumed Wednesday after common areas were disinfected overnight.
The student was diagnosed with the mildest form of the bacteria infection and is expected back at school within a few days.
Also, a woman was diagnosed with MRSA at Saint Luke?s Cornwall Hosptial in Newburgh. Officials say she is being treated and is expected to fully recover.
