Family, friends say goodbye to star Goshen athlete

Posted: Updated:

Hundreds gathered at a Goshen church Monday and said goodbye to a former star student athlete who died last week from bacterial meningitis.

Erin Ortiz, 18, was a recent graduate of Goshen High School. She was a star on the varsity soccer, softball and basketball teams. She became sick while home from Bentley College, where she was just six weeks into her freshman year. The infection killed her within a weekend.

Family and friends said Ortiz influenced many lives in her short time and she will be greatly missed. They said they were touched by how many people attended the funeral.

Two vans full of students from Bentley College traveled more than 200 miles to attend the funeral. For more footage of Erin Ortiz?s funeral, go to channel 612 on your iO digital cable box and select iO Extra.Related Information:
