(AP) - A 37-year-old Orange County woman is charged with second-degree murder after the remains of her infant daughter were found in a garbage bag inside an old truck.
State police in Middletown say they arrested Christine Maher yesterday after questioning her about the discovery of the remains, which were found Friday on property in the town of Deerpark.
The woman who found the remains alerted police, who questioned neighbors. That led them to Maher, who was being held in the OrangeCounty Jail on a previous arrest.
Police say Maher is accused of causing the death of the child shortly after giving birth on or about Sept. 24.
She's back in jail pending additional court proceedings.
