Mothers of fallen troops honored in Eastchester

Parents whose children paid the ultimate sacrifice for freedom were honored in Eastchester on National Gold Star Mother's Day Sunday.
Officials honored four women at Eastchester Memorial Park. Carmen Palmer's Marine son was killed in Iraq in 2003; Ligaya Lagman's Army son died in Afghanistan in 2004; Sydney's son never returned from the Persian Gulf; and Beatrice Duffy's Navy son died in Vietnam.
Staff Sgt. Courtney Hollinsworth, of Yonkers, is the most recent local casualty in the war on terror.
"We're grateful people haven't forgotten our sons," a Gold Star Mother said. However, recipients were quick to add they hope no other mothers have to endure the same pain.
Former President Bill Clinton made National Gold Star Mother's Day official in 1994.
