An elderly woman was killed and another injured when a driver plowed into a New City restaurant.

The two friends were sitting on a bench outside Pasta Cucina with their backs to the parking lot when the car crashed into the restaurant, according to witnesses. The driver, who was going to the restaurant to meet the two victims, slammed into the bench and sent the two friends flying through the restaurant?s front window.

Authorities say the 86-year-old driver from Suffern, put the car in drive instead of reverse.

Irene McDonell, 78 from Congers, died from internal injuries soon after the accident. The other victim suffered minor injuries.

Clarkstown police are investigating the accident. No summonses were issued to the driver who police say had a clean driving record.
