Slain immigrant's autopsy results released
Results were released Tuesday from the autopsy of Rene Perez, a homeless Guatemalan immigrant found on the side of a Bedford road in April.
Perez?s body was found April 28, and he was pronounced dead the following day. Prosecutors say Mount Kisco police officer George Bubaris dumped Perez?s body. Bubaris has been indicted on charges of manslaughter.
The autopsy confirms the victim?s blood alcohol content was .29 at the time of his death, almost four times the legal limit. Severe abdominal injuries are listed as the cause of death on the report as examiners found more than six pints of blood in the victim?s stomach during the autopsy.
Jonathon Lovett, attorney for the Perez family, says the autopsy results and contusion on Perez?s body are signs the man was beaten. The attorney says he is outraged assault charges have not been filed against Officer Bubaris.
"I find the lack of relationship between the indictment and what's stated in the autopsy report to be mind-boggling," says Lovett.
Bubaris? attorney, Ed Hayes, maintains the injuries were more likely to have occurred as a result of the victim?s extreme drunkenness.
"His family couldn't take care of him,? says Hayes. ?Hospitals couldn't take care of him. He couldn't take care of himself."
