Soldier from Yonkers killed in explosion in Iraq
A Yonkers mother and stepfather are in mourning Monday after learning their son will not be returning home from Iraq.
Courtney Hollinsworth, 26, was an Army sergeant who first served in Afghanistan and then deployed to Iraq in February. He was on patrol in Baghdad over the weekend when his truck hit a crude explosive device.
Hollinsworth's mother said she never thought she would be part of the group of families receiving the bad news. She said when she spoke to her son three weeks ago, he didn't sound like himself because his unit had lost several soldiers.
Hollinsworth, who was recently married, joined the Army right after graduating from Saunders High School in Yonkers. He will be buried with full military honors.
