Officials vow to rebuild Tarrytown school after fire

Officials are promising to rebuild a prestigious Tarrytown private school after lightning sparked a fire Saturday.
Administrators at the Hackley School said repairs could cost up to $1 million. The interior of the Kaskel Library was gutted and some nearby classrooms were destroyed, along with more than 30,000 books and artifacts.
Peggi Beussow, 80, once served as chairperson of the Fine Arts Department at the co-ed school. The artist also sketched pictures of the school to create Christmas cards and invitations.
"I was totally devastated the rest of the day," Beussow said of learning about the fire. She said she hopes the books can be saved.
The first day of school at Hackley starts September 4.
Billionaire Malcolm Forbes and actor George Hamilton are a few Hackley graduates.
