Pedestrian struck and killed by county bus in Monsey

A pedestrian was killed Friday after she stepped in the path of a bus in a busy shopping area of Monsey.
Police say the victim, a 52-year-old woman, was at Shopper's Haven when she stepped off the sidewalk and was struck by a Transport Rockland bus. According to witnesses, the woman was loaded down with groceries and may have been talking on a cell phone at the time of the accident.
The victim was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern where she was pronounced dead, according to police. The bus was impounded for inspection and the driver reported for required substance testing. Police continue to investigate the accident.
