A lawsuit on behalf of the 10,000 sick 9/11 workers was filed in Supreme Court blasting the mayor of New York City and the WTC Captive Insurance Company.

The 55-page complaint was filed by White Plains attorney David Worby and alleges Mayor Michael Bloomberg (R-NYC) is squandering a billion-dollar federal fund on legal fees that should be used to treat the sick and dying.

Former NYPD Detective John Walcott, of Rockland County, was diagnosed with leukemia two years after working at Ground Zero. Walcott says he hasn?t seen any money for medical help from the 9/11 insurance fund set aside by Congress that Bloomberg oversees.

Apparently Walcott isn?t the only one. To date, 8,000 people have filed claims with the WTC Captive Insurance Company and only one person has received any money. That person fell off a ladder and received $45,000.

So far, $74 million has been spent on overhead and consultants, $46 million went to legal fees and $8.5 million went for claims adjusting. Also, the CEO of the insurance company received $350,000.

The city has claimed the money needs to be litigated before it is paid out. However, 9/11 workers say that isn?t helping them pay mounting medical bills. The lawsuit also calls for Bloomberg to be removed as the fund?s overseer. Worby says an independent board should be established to review claims.
