Fate of accused Middletown killer in hands of jury
The fate of a Middletown man accused of beating someone to death over drug money is in the hands of a jury.
The jury heard closing arguments Wednesday at the Orange County Courthouse in the murder trial of 29-year-old James Harris. Prosecutors say Harris beat Franklin Fitts, of Yonkers, to death in September of 2006. Police say Fitts? decomposing body was found days later in the trunk of his own car. Prosecutors believe the killing was over drug money.
The assistant district attorney tried to prove Harris, who allegedly ran a drug operation, was part of the whole crime. However, Harris? attorney says there is no DNA evidence linking his client to the crime.
Another man, James Blagmon, was convicted in May for his involvement in the murder. DNA evidence weighed heavily in the case against Blagmon. However, prosecutors have said since the beginning of the investigation that Blagmon didn't act alone.
