Greenwood Lake students may be bused to Warwick
Buses may soon be headed to Warwick rather than Tuxedo for hundreds of Greenwood Lake students sent out of their district to learn.
The Greenwood Lake School District, which does not have a high school, sends more than 300 students to Tuxedo's George Barker High School. The district pays tuition for each child it sends and is debating whether Warwick could be more cost effective.
"[Warwick has] a much larger high school than Tuxedo. They offer a lot in terms of programs," Greenwood Lake Superintendent John Guarracino said.
The superintendent of Tuxedo schools counters his high school may die if students are pulled. "It's not about what's cheaper. It's value. It's what you are getting with your money," Tuxedo Superintendent Joseph Zanetti said about the plan.
Zanetti believes Greenwood Lake has not yet calculated how much Warwick teachers will be compensated.
The three school districts will meet in July about the issue. If approved, the plan would take effect in September 2008.
