Emergency officials in the four counties around Indian Point Nuclear Power Plant got a scare when they were mistakenly notified of a problem.
A computer program used by plant owner Entergy to send out emergency notices for Indian Point was being tested at the Pilgrim Nuclear Plant in Massachusetts. During a demonstration of the program, blank copies of notification forms were sent to the four counties around the plant and to state emergency officials.
Because the forms were blank, government officials realized there had been a mistake, which they confirmed by phone. While it was a false alarm, county officials say they want Entergy to make sure something like that does not happen again.
Meanwhile, after three days of repairs to a faulty valve, Indian Point 2 is back on line providing energy. The reactor had to be powered down for the repair. Indian Point 3 was not affected and provided power at 100 percent.Related InformationFaulty valve forces shutdown at Indian Point 2
