Chestnut Ridge home invasion victim tails attackers
A Chestnut Ridge home invasion victim managed to give police important information after tailing his attackers Monday.
Police say a 20-year-old man living at 135 Grotke Rd. heard a knock at the door and chose not to respond. That's when two men in their early 20s busted in. The victim told police the men went to the basement, where they stole a case containing a shotgun and ammunition. Police say the suspects started fighting with the resident and struck him in the face.
The victim tailed the suspects' white Crown Victoria and got their New York license plate number, DSR 1974, before losing them. Police say he returned home to call 911.
Ramapo police say daytime burglaries are common because suspects often think no one is home. However, investigators say it's odd that the men only stole a shotgun. The house is up for sale, but investigators do not believe the robbers had toured the home.
