West Nyack residents get help wading out of water

Posted: Updated:

Some West Nyack residents got a helping hand wading through the remnants of a nor'easter Monday.Firefighters helped evacuate 27 people from Klein Avenue. Authorities say some residents evacuated on their own either late Sunday night or early Monday morning.

West Nyack resident Jane Stormes is taking the deluge in stride. "My sister lives with us in the basement. [She] lost a lot of things, but we have flood insurance ... All we can say is it's our belongings, not us, so we're fine and we're happy," said Stormes.

Meanwhile, a woman who got stuck trying to drive through flood waters on Route 59 near the Palisades Center Mall had to be rescued.

Volunteers were also hard at work pumping water out of the West Nyack Library.
