People in Westchester, Orange and Rockland counties chose mayors, trustees and village justices. Some communities had uncontested races, while others were more spirited. In Port Chester, where residents only voted for a mayor due to a federal lawsuit against a trustee election, Democrat Dennis Pilla beat out Republican Domenick Cicatelli by 8 percentage points.
In Irvington, the second time was a charm for Democrat Erin Malloy. Two years ago, Malloy lost the mayoral race in a coin toss. This year, however, she beat out Republican Sheila Attai.
Meanwhile, in Rockland County, most of the races were unopposed. However, the mayoral race in Pomona was hotly contested as two candidates challenged incumbent Mayor Herbert Marshall. Challenger Nicholas Sanderson beat out both the incumbent and challenger Joseph Anderson.
