A Sullivan County man died after his car rammed into a parked tractor-trailer on the New York State Thruway in Sloatsburg Thursday.
According to police, 57-year-old Robert Cohen hit the back of the tractor-trailer so hard, the impact split his engine in two. He was killed instantly. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to extricate Cohen from the wreckage. Police are trying to determine if the driver fell asleep or became ill before the accident.

In the last 10 years, 30 lives have been claimed in 22 crashes. In 2006 alone, 10 people died on that same stretch of road in just 16 weeks.
