Falling ceiling tiles on the second floor of Nyack Middle School prompted fears of a roof collapse Friday.
School officials say ceiling tiles fell in a second-floor classroom and the entire floor was evacuated. Authorities say a leak in a heating unit caused water to build up above the ceiling, collapsing the tiles. The school remained in session and students were moved into classes on the first floor.
School officials say they hope to have the ceiling repaired next week while school is out for winter break.
