Storm packs powerful punch of snow and ice for Orange County

It's a cold Valentine's Day for folks in Orange County as they contended with a mixture of snow and freezing rain Wednesday. Crews were ready for the storm and were out Tuesday to place a salt-brine mixture on the roads to help stop the snow and ice from bonding to the surface. Highway department officials say the fact that the storm is expected to be a long one will make it more difficult to deal with. Forecasters say residents in the northern parts of Hudson Valley will get more snow accumulations.Police say fortunately most people chose to stay indoors or travel by foot. For those that do have to drive, they are told to drive slowly and to be sure to allow extra time to get to their destinations. The storm created icy roads and forced more than 100 schools to close for the day.
