Posted: Updated:

The man accused of fatally shooting a Middletown salon owner in a murder-for-hire plot had to face the victim?s family during his arraignment Thursday. Melvin Green, 36, pleaded not guilty to first and second-degree murder for the brutal death of Fermina Nunez. Police say Green shot the 36-year-old mother of four execution style in December inside her Middletown hair salon. According to investigators, Nunez?s ex-boyfriend, 42-year-old Patrick Bowie paid Green, a long-time friend, about $1,000 to take her life.

Nunez?s family members vow to be in court for every step. If convicted, Green faces 25 years to life. He was sent back to Orange County Jail without bail. Bowie is scheduled to be arraigned Friday.
