Police crackdown nets 16 drug arrests in Orangetown
A police crackdown led to the arrests of at least 16 people for either buying or selling cocaine in Orangetown.
The arrests come from a yearlong investigation and police believe more arrests are likely. Police say through undercover work they picked up the suspects attempting to buy drugs on Main Street and Broadway in Nyack and in parking lots in other Orangetown locations. Investigators say they are confident the small-scale drug arrests will lead to arrests of big-time suppliers.
Nyack Mayor John Shields says drug dealing is one of the most common complaints among people who live in the village. Officers believe the operation will improve the quality of life in the area.
