NY bigwigs heed Orange County veterans' call for helpPosted: Updated:
Returning veterans coping with the trauma and stress of war are calling for a clinic of their own in Orange County, and lawmakers are listening.
For some of the 900 Iraq war veterans living in Orange County, traveling to the nearest veteran?s center in White Plains is too far for those needing daily help. County officials say a center is needed for counseling, re-training and deployment training for those coming home from war. Officials sent out letters to lawmakers on both the state and federal level for support. County Executive Edward Diana says he has already heard back from both Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY) and Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) in support of putting a veteran?s center in Orange County.
