Newburgh resident uses shotgun as home security system

A home invasion in Newburgh turned into a gunfight after a resident fought back against the intruders.
According to police, a group of men entered a home occupied by three people on Gardnertown Road Monday night. Police say the intruders started to shoot randomly at the residents. They say one man was held at gunpoint on the first floor while another ran to his room to get a shotgun. Police say the resident took the shotgun and fired at the intruders, sparking return fire as the suspects fled. None of the residents were injured.
Newburgh police obtained a search warrant and uncovered a large amount of cash that belonged to a tenant renting out a room. Police believe the house was targeted. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Newburgh police at 845-564-1100.
