The man charged in a fatal Wallkill bar brawl was in the hospital Monday recovering from injuries he received in the shooting, according to police.
Corey Inniss, of Middletown, faces charges in the slaying of 28-year-old Jamar Nelson, also of Middletown. Police say they found Nelson dead outside KJ?s Tap Room Saturday morning. Authorities believe an altercation escalated into gunshots, which injured bar employees, before spilling onto the street. Police say Inniss, 22, was shot in the leg and fled in a vehicle that officers stopped in a roadblock. Authorities say two other men in the SUV were charged with hindering prosecution for trying to help Inniss escape. Several other people were charged with assault.
State police say they hope the Liquor Authority will consider revoking the bar?s license after the latest incident. Police say while this is the first fatal fight at the bar, the nightspot is no stranger to trouble.
