Posted: Updated:

(11/23/06) HAWTHORNE ? The disbarred Chappaqua lawyer questioned by police in a deadly roadside shooting lashed out at a reporter Wednesday when asked if he was responsible for his wife?s death.

After the altercation, in which Carlos Perez-Olivo may have hit the reporter, the lawyer was escorted to a car and sped off. The heated exchange is just the latest turn in a crime that has left Perez-Olivo?s wife, Peggy, dead. Carlos claims they were forced off the road Saturday, at which point a gunman entered the vehicle and opened fire. Carlos was shot in the abdomen, his wife in the head. Peggy died Monday as a result of her injuries.

Police have called Perez-Olivo?s story about a roadside ambush ?unusual.? He is being questioned by police, but has not been charged with anything. Police have released a sketch of the suspect based on the husband?s description.
