Sagging test scores spur year-round school talks in Ramapo
A year-round school calendar may be in the future for students in the East Ramapo School District.
The scenario comes after the district had some of the lowest test scores in the county. East Ramapo Board of Education President Nathan Rothschild believes a longer school day isn't the option. However, he thinks adding six weeks for all students in the district could make a difference.
A committee has been formed to look at the option. Rothschild says he hopes to have a decision in February. He says it may be the only way to help kids meet the needs of a changing educational system. A year-round education is already in effect at schools in other states. California has the most with more than 1,400 schools.
