Nyack ceremony helps heal fresh wounds in '81 deadly Brinks heist

Residents marked a somber anniversary in Nyack Friday as a special ceremony was held to honor those brutally killed during the Brinks heist 25 years ago.
In 1981, a group of self-proclaimed revolutionaries robbed and murdered Brinks security guard Peter Paige at the Nanuet Mall. As they tried to escape, they also murdered two Nyack police officers, Waverly Brown and Sergeant Edward O'Grady. The officers had set up a roadblock on Mountainview Avenue and Route 59.
A federal judge recently ruled that one of the convicted killers in the heist, Judith Clark, wasn?t fairly represented in 1983. The judge granted her a new trial. The ruling has opened up old wounds for those close to the men who died. However, the memorial Friday served to bring the focus back on the brave men who lost their lives in the line of duty.
