Greed's the cry as Hudson Valley, Westchester residents hit back at Con Ed
Residents and legislators blasted Con Edison officials Monday at a public meeting, where many hinted the utility is steadfast only in its efforts to put profit over public service.Exasperated residents questioned why Con Ed was so slow to restore power after last month?s Tropical Storm Ernesto when they knew a week in advance the storm was coming. Ardsley resident Alan Breindell had his own gripe with a Con Ed policy that does not reimburse customers for ?acts of god.? The rule baffles residents like Breindell, many of whom toughed it out for a week without power, losing valuable foodstuff. Still others complained of not being able to power life saving medical devices in the storm?s wake.Legislators barked out questions about Con Ed?s response time, company methods for estimating how long outages will last and specific customer reimbursement policies. Westchester legislator Mike Kaplowitz (D-NY) pointedly asked the troubled utility when it would put service over profit. Legislators say the next step is to pressure the Public Service Commission to come down on Con Ed and force them to make internal changes for dealing with emergencies.Related Information: Con Ed, NYSEG in the hot seat over Westchester, Hudson Valley outages
