Major road arteries clogged as holiday travelers pack Hudson Valley
Shoppers and day trippers packed the New York State Thruway Monday, adding to heavy holiday traffic.Roads were clogged on the border of Rockland and Orange, where Route 17 meets I-87. Meanwhile, huge crowds were lured by sales at Woodbury Common Outlets. State troopers were stationed on Route 32 and Route 17, where they were directing traffic. One traveler said their help was actually hindering the free flow of traffic and wanted the troopers to let the lights monitor traffic.Woodbury police say they were ready for the jams and expected crowds because of the nice weather. Local law enforcement considers Labor Day weekend good practice for the day after Thanksgiving, called Black Friday. That?s the busiest weekend of the year, according to police.
