New Windsor murder-suicide puts domestic violence issue on forefront

A recent murder-suicide of a New Windsor couple has brought domestic violence issues to the forefront once again.
Last week, police say 37-year-old Francisco Espinal stabbed and shot his wife, 38-year-old Griselda Espinal, after an apparent argument in New Windsor. Fransico then shot himself, on the front yard of their home as their kids, neighbors and police looked on. Michelle Micown, director of Safe Homes in Orange County, says domestic violence situations are usually about control. She says most husbands abuse their wives when they feel the woman has the power.
Micown says many incidents that end in murder also have reported domestic violence to the police in the past, as was the case with Griselda Espinal. She says if there was an intervention or an arrest, perhaps the murder could have been avoided.
