Deck collapse in Mount Hope sends three to the hospital

Posted: Updated:

A summer party came to a dramatic end in Mount Hope when a deck filled with teenagers collapsed.

Police believe about 80 teens were standing on the back deck of a house when it suddenly gave out Tuesday night. The Howells Fire Department says three kids were injured and transported to the hospital with fractures. State police and emergency responders from Ottisville and Middletown were called in to assist. Officials say it took a lot of team effort to lift the deck and search for victims. Heat sensors were also used to locate bodies in case anyone had rolled down the hill.

Police say the party was hosted by a 20-year-old whose parents were on vacation. They are trying to estimate how many kids attended the party and whether or not alcohol was being served to minors.
