Officials say electrical problem caused Indian Point 3 to shutdown
The Indian Point 3 nuclear reactor is expected to be back in service Friday after an electrical problem closed the Buchanan power plant. Officials say faulty insulation in a relay on the non-nuclear side of Indian Point 3 forced the plant to shut down Thursday morning. It's the first time Indian Point 3 has been off line in 273 days and the third longest stretch of operation without a problem in the plant?s 30-year history. Westchester County Emergency Services Commissioner Tony Sutton says the system worked the way it was supposed to and he's pleased with the way the situation was handled. He also says no radiation was released and the public was never in any danger.
