New clue could help officials ID skeletal remains found in Greenwood Lake

Posted: Updated:

There is a new clue Monday in the discovery of skeletal remains in Orange County. Police say they may have found hairs belonging to the victim, whose remains were found by an ATV rider Thursday night in Greenwood Lake off Route 17-A. Police hope that the hairs, along with clothing from the scene and a rough description, will help them identify the victim. In addition they hope to determine how and when the person died. Investigators do know that the remains are that of a man, somewhere between 25 and 50 years old, 5 feet 11 to 6 feet 3 inches tall, weighing between 225 to 250 pounds. State police checked reports of missing persons from the area over the past several years, but no one matched the description of the skeletal remains. Now they're working with police agencies from surrounding areas to widen their search.
