Sloatsburg collision leaves one dead; another seriously injured
One person was killed and another seriously injured in a collision in Sloatsburg Friday.
Police say a dump truck hauling an excavator trailer was parked along Sterling Mine Road. An SUV was heading eastbound past the dump truck when a garbage truck crossed over the double yellow line and struck the SUV head-on. Police say the garbage truck continued driving and then hit a pickup truck head-on as well.
The driver of the SUV, 75-year-old Jack Lieberman of Tuxedo, was killed. The driver of the truck was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital with a broken hip. Sterling Mine Road was closed for six hours as police investigated the crash and tow trucks removed all the vehicles. The dump truck and garbage truck have been impounded.
